While
T-Minus is definitely interesting and pairs up nicely with Abadzis’s Laika,
the overall book isn’t much more than an illustrated wiki timeline of the
events leading up to the first moon landing. Contrasting American and Russian
engineers as they strive for the ultimate goal of a working lunar lander, the
book manages to get the sense of urgency right, but much of the narrative is
buried under factoids and info-dumps. Were this done effectively, it wouldn’t
be a problem, but instead the goal of the book is muddied—is it an
informative timeline of events or a dramatic story detailing the cold war
space race? Space fans will still find something to like, but it’s not the
best graphic novel dealing with this information by a long run.
