The
first couple lines of this books are SO STUPID, but don't let that turn you
off. Although most coming of age novels involve high school and
relationships, this book manages to do something that most YA books don't: it
makes all the characters feel like real people with depth. You won't find any
evil cheerleaders or bonehead jocks in this book. I really appreciated that
the ex-girlfriend wasn't made into a villain or a plot device. Now I need to
go watch the movie and see how it compares!
